Coin in capsule with box and certificate.
Gabrielė Petkevičaitė was a Lithuanian writer and activist. Her pen name Bitė (Bee) eventually became part of her last name. Petkevičaitė was born to a family of Lithuanian nobility. When she was nine, Petkevičaitė's mother died of typhus and she began looking after her five brothers despite her own disability (deformed spine). Service to others continued to be a prominent part of Petkevičaitė's life and work. After graduation from a girls' school in Jelgava (1878), Petkevičaitė worked with her father in a pharmacy and privately tutored in Lithuanian, violating the Lithuanian press ban. Around 1890 she met Povilas Višinskis, who encouraged her to join public life and start a writing career. She was one of the organizers and chairwoman of the first Congress of Lithuanian Women in 1907 and co-founder of Lithuanian Women's Association in 1908.

2007 - 50 Litas Silver "Panemune Castle" PROOF
Silver coin, Proof.
Coin in capsule and certificate.
Panemunė Castle is a castle on the right bank of the Nemunas river, in Vytėnai, Jurbarkas district, Lithuania. The initial hillfort of the Teutonic Knights was replaced by a castle built in 1604-1610 by a noble Hungarian descent Janusz Eperjesz. The name "Panemunė" (along the Nemunas), it is guessed, arose from the former Panemunė Manor that was once here. Panemunė Castle was not designed to be a stronghold for the defense of the land but a typical, for the beginning of the 17th century, nobleman castle with defensive fittings, residential buildings, and farm buildings. Panemunė Castle became one of the most beautiful Renaissance era building in Lithuania. The castle stands in a park on a high hill and is surrounded by five cascading ponds.
