Description

Silver coin dedicated to Recanati city, Proof.
The city of Recanati probably originated from the ruins of an ancient Roman town called Ricina and flourished during the Middle Ages. Known as a city of art, rich in Renaissance and Baroque palaces and wonderful examples of religious architecture, just like the church of St. Augustine with its beautiful Gothic cloister, Recanati is also famous for being the hometown of Giacomo Leopardi, one of the greatest Italian poets.
The obverse of the coin shows the complex of St. Augustine with the façade of the Church, the Cloister, the bell tower, famous for being celebrated in Leopardi’s poem Passero Solitario, and, in the foreground, on the right, the coat of arms of the Municipality with a lion rampant, composition attributed to Sansovino.
