The gallery Vittorio Emanuele II is a commercial gallery in Milan which, in the form of a covered pedestrian street, links Piazza Duomo to Piazza della Scala. Because of its elegant shops and premises, it was the meeting place of the Milanese bourgeoisie since its inauguration and nicknamed the "Milan lounge": built in neo-Renaissance style, is one of the most famous examples of European iron architecture and represents the 'Archetype of the 19th-century shopping gallery. Simply called "the Gallery" by milanese, it is often considered as one of the first examples of a mall in the world.
