Fausto Angelo Coppi was born in Castellania, in the province of Alessandria, on 15 September 1919 in a family of modest origins.

Fausto Coppi died on 2 January 1960 from a malaria contracted during a trip to Alto Volta and not diagnosed in time, which killed his life at just 41 years old.
