At the end of the First World War a group of veterans on 8 July 1919 formed the National Alpine Association (ANA).
It happened in Milan, at the Spatenbräu Brewery, whose owner was Angelo Colombo - one of the founding members -, and it was the beginning of a very long march that still lasts.
The first president was Daniele Crespi, since 2013 Sebastiano Favero has been in charge.
The National Alpine Association presents a workforce of 348.956 members (in January 2018), with 80 sections in Italy, 30 sections in the various nations of the world, plus 8 autonomous groups.
