Born in 1598, Gian Lorenzo Bernini was a versatile artist: sculptor, architect, painter, set designer, playwright and designer.
He carried out his brilliant artistic activity in Rome, where he was also appointed architect of San Pietro.
He imposed himself as one of the greatest exponents of the Baroque, influencing the European scene for over a century.
The obverse of the coin depicts the famous marble portrait "Busto di Costanza Bonarelli", kept at the Bargello Museum in Florence.
Bernini has impressed in marble the vitality of the woman, whose gaze creates a direct link with the spectator who can only be fascinated by it.
