In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 21st International Forestry Day with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of tree heritage, whose protection is essential for the survival of our planet.
The 5 euro coin shows on the reverse side a composition with a tree that takes the shape of two crossed hands, whose fingers branch upwards, a symbol of man's necessary support for the forests.
The foliage is composed of different leaves, representing the variety of trees around the world.
